Packing Your Entire House Without Losing Your Mind
While the opportunity to move can be exciting, no one ever looks forward to the prospect of packing. Who wants to pack all of their belongings into boxes and then unpack everything once they’re in their new home? Unpacking isn’t pleasant, but it doesn’t have to be something that drives you insane. Read on to learn more about how a portable storage container can save you the hustle.
Sort Your Stuff
One of the things which will make packing easier is to go through your belongings and decide what you’re keeping and what you’re not. For example, the Big Mouth Billy Bass you received for your birthday in 2001 doesn’t need to come with you to your new home. If you have a hard time deciding what you want to keep, follow this rule of thumb: if you haven’t worn it or used it in the past year, and you don’t see yourself wearing or using it in the next year, get rid of it.
Set a Schedule
Part of staying sane during the moving process is having a schedule which you stick to like glue. Take out your calendar and circle important dates, such as when you need to move, when you need to turn off the utilities and when you need to start packing. Knowing when you need to do things means that you’ll be organized. And when you’re organized, you’re more relaxed… and sane.
Find Reliable Movers
If you’re planning on using movers, you’ll need to find a company you can trust. Finding a trustworthy moving company might seem like an unpleasant activity. However, there are ways you can make it easier for yourself. First of all, ask your family, friends and coworkers for recommendations. They can tell you which companies to choose (and which to avoid). Next, call a few of these companies and ask them for quotes. A low quote isn’t necessarily the best quote, because it might not include such niceties as packing materials or a truck. Pick a company with a reasonable quote which includes the most services.
Don’t Pack Everything
There are certain things you shouldn’t pack, such as your laptop or tablet and their chargers. If you’re moving abroad, don’t put your passport in one of the boxes. Make a list of the important documents or items which you’ll need during the move. Keep them in a safe place so they aren’t packed.
